My student lives in The Netherlands, we speak English only. Student, talking about something: - And people will... they will... hmm... (in Dutch) overleven. Me, in the blink of an eye: - Oh, you mean survive? Student: yes!
It was a no brainer for sure. Dutch resembles German and English is a Germanic language, and yes, there was context, so it's not to brag, it was just funny.
В голландском сразу видно, что из него пришло в английский, ужасно интересно. Первое голландское слово, которое я увидела, было написано на большом щите на съезде с автобана - Uit. Догадаетесь, как оно читается?)
