Date: 2014-04-14 07:33 am (UTC)The box is usually given to people at a hospital to save lock of hair or piece of navel of newborn.

Date: 2014-04-19 06:19 am (UTC)Never heard of lock of hair being stored in that box, usually it's the umbilical cord.
How come you know that?

Date: 2014-04-14 02:03 pm (UTC)а вообще нелегкая загадка, в коробочку разное можно складывать. разумеется, японец, если увидит, поймет, что это - там надпись же на крышке по-японски :)
не выдержала и погуглила. это и правда для куска пуповины?

Date: 2014-04-19 06:21 am (UTC)Аппендикс?! Вай :)
Не, на крышке не написано, что это коробочка для пуповины, и думаю, если даже на ней ничего не будет написано, японцы поймут чисто по форме ее.

Date: 2014-04-14 03:49 pm (UTC)Wow, it's really intriguing. So that's how Sherlock feels, hm...
My first thought it's a box given to the happy parents when their child is born. Maybe the name of the child is kept there, or maybe the name and the "technical characteristics" of the child (such as weight and height). Or the footprint of the kid could be stored here. Probably it brings luck to the person if he or she keeps this box as long as possible.
My second thought it's the box for the hair after the first haircut of the kid.
All in all I think it's something that brings luck for the owner :)

Date: 2014-04-14 10:19 pm (UTC)a box for pills, because it is usually given to people at a hospital and patients need to use pills.
a box for thermometer, because it is usually given to people at a hospital and patients need to use a thermometer.
a box for special music balls. People at hospitals need to be calm.
a box for lock (curl). Maybe, the hospital is a maternity hospital.
a box for toothbrush. It is usually in an individual case.
a box for ear protectors. Because your neighbours may be snore.
